From the MIND of filmmaker Terry Dawson, “A Whole New Irving” is a new web series that follows protagonist IRVING MILLER (Chase Anthony) as he stumbles down the path of SPIRITUAL ENLIGHTENMENT. …Or, something like that anyway.
Irving is a thoroughly modern portrait of today’s millennial angst. He’s recently college graduated, in a mountain of student loan debt, and has had no luck finding a post grab job that reflects his level of education. He envisioned himself a baller, but in reality Irving is humbled to be recently returned to his native Los Angeles (hailing from the historic Leimert Park community) and even more humbled to have his childhood bicycle as a primary mode of transportation when his car dies on him. But Irving feels anything but HUMBLE. Instead he’s cynical and generally salty AF about his current lot in life.
Nevertheless, despite his negative attitude he’s got every INTENTION of succeeding in this newfound, adult “real world”. What he’s missing however is a solid game plan - though his EGO won’t allow him to admit it. Then FATE steps in. Somewhere between shear desperation and utter happenstance, Irving lands a job at a health food store (Rainbow Acres) in Venice Beach, and suddenly finds himself in the odd and curious world of new age philosophy: surrounded by MEDITATORS, YOGIS and “HIGH VIBRATORS” of every tie dyed stripe.
Soon Irving is confronted with lessons in KARMA and THE LAW OF ATTRACTION and is urged to explore how his OUTER WORLD may be a reflection of his own NEGATIVE, INNER LIFE. He doesn’t immediately believe the hype, yet somehow he finds himself tumbling down the rabbit hole landing in an urban hippy Wonderland, struggling to decipher wisdom and truth from woo woo.
Reppin’ for VENICE are: CRAIG (Rob Moore) who is Irving’s new boss and fair-weather guru; MATTHEUS (Jandres Burgos) Irving’s best bud-coworker who’s a die hard Yogi, in it for both the FLOW and the flexible women; and DESTINY (Bianca Sia) the bohemian beauty who Irving is hoping will become the “Freddie” to his “Shaza”.
On the Leimert Park side of the 405 are: Irving’s mother DONNA (Gina Jackson) who is devoutly Christian and has her own ideas about how her children should be cultivating their faith; and a dastardly younger brother SEAN (John Paul Jones II) who takes every possible opportunity to remind Irving of his new found “low-baller” status.
